Introduction

John R. Platt is an environmental journalist covering endangered species, climate, pollution and related topics. He’s the editor of The Revelator, an online news and ideas initiative of the Center for Biological Diversity. His work has appeared in Scientific American, Audubon, Motherboard, and numerous other magazines and publications.

Experience

Platt is an accomplished environmentalist, using his communication skills to explain the plight of endangered species and a planet in climate chaos. He started his “Extinction Countdown” column in 2004 and has been writing about endangered species there ever since. Platt wrote for MNN (now part of Treehugger) for four years, covering forgotten moments in history and surprising natural phenomena. His work has also appeared in Scientific American, Audubon, Motherboard, and numerous other publications. He is a member of the Society of Environmental Journalists and the National Association of Science Writers. Outside of his environmental pursuits, he is a fantasy & horror writer, a poet and a cartoonist.

Awards

2012 International Fund for Animal Welfare’s Animal Action Award for his writing about endangered species, climate change, wildlife trafficking and related topics.
